This seminar will deal with a number of issues that are facing Nordic journal publishing today. The trend is clear, more and more journals are going digital and if possible also Open Access. One trend in this transition is that university libraries are taking on the task to host journals. A recent survey by the NOAP project shows that there are 9 Nordic university libraries hosting, or are setting up a hosting service, for scientific and scholarly journals and 8 of them have started 2005 or later. One professional Open Access publishing house was established in 2007. One national funder (Det Frie Forskningsråd Kultur og Kommunikation (FKK) in Denmark) has made it conditional for journals who receive funding to become Open Access within one year.

The seminar will bring together a number of actors in this transition to present their point-of-view, drawing on work done in the NOAP project. A survey of Open Access business models used by Nordic journals, case studies by a professional publisher, and library hosts will be presented. A new support tool for journals, the best practice guide for open access journals will be shown in its beta version and also the dominant publishing platform today, Open Journals Systems, and work done to create a Nordic OJS user group.

We also hope that we will get as many as possible of the major Nordic national funders that support journal publishing to participate and present their views on journal support and Open Access.

Participate in this seminar and get an update on what is happening in Nordic scientific and scholarly journal publishing.
