Myths - Notions of Sami Witchcraft

The diabolic interpretation of Sami nature worship flourished greatly in 17th-century European literature. This drawing illustrates a Sami in conversation with the Devil, who is surrounded by a number of half-grown forest demons. Of Dutch origin, the drawing may be found in the 1682-edition of Schefferus' book on Lapland.
