Archangel was founded as a trading center in 1584. Following the English expedition to the White Sea, in 1553, a trade route was opened between Russia and Europe in the northern regions. |

The city of Archangel is the old center in the White Sea. It is the focal point in the connections between Northwest Russia and Norway and the rest of Europe.
Archangel was the capital of the Pomor trade in the 18th, 19th and beginning 20th centuries. |
