Hammerfest (Lilienskiold) Hammerfest harbour. 1838

Hammerfest Hammerfest was established as a city in 1789, but was well-known as a harbour long before that. The Speculum Boreale by Hans. H. Lilienskiold from late 17th -century contains a description and depiction of Hammerfest. The La Recherche Expedition visited Hammerfest in 1838, and Auguste Mayer made this picture.
