The aim of this study was to investigate the development of food habits in adolescents in Tromsø, whether pupil behaviour regarding food habits had changed in grade 10 compared to grade eight, and whether this was linked to pupils` Home Economics lessons in grade nine.
A total of 606 adolescents (321 boys and 285 girls) were studied on two different occasions – 2002 and 2005, A food-frequency questionnaire comprising 16 different food and beverage groups was used. The questionnaire also enquired about food habits, the amounts consumed of some food items and the socioeconomic conditions of the participants and their families.
The frequency of eating breakfast, lunch and dinner reduced from 8th to 10th grade.
No significant differences were found between 8th and 10th graders in their frequency of consuming fruit and vegetables. Tenth graders ate chocolate and snacks more often than 8th graders. Girls reported eating fruit and vegetables more often than boys. This applies to both 8th and 10th graders. Far more pupils from both groups need to eat more fruit and vegetables every day.
The conclusion of the study is that food habits change significantly from the 8th to the 10th grade. Further progress must be achieved in addressing the issue of translating the theory of nutritional education into practice. More studies and evidence are required to understand the potential of the Home Economics curricula to change the unhealthy eating trends seen in this and other studies.
Bearbeiding av data fra praktiske forsøk og feltkurs har en sentral plass i naturfagundervisninga i lærerutdanninga. Regneark er her et naturlig hjelpemiddel; spesielt ved bearbeiding av store datamengder. I min undervisning på Naturfag for ungdomstrinnet ved Universitetet i Tromsø erfarer jeg at de fleste studentene trenger opplæring for å kunne bruke regneark på en hensiktsmessig måte. I undervisningstida er det begrenset hvor mye tid en kan avsette til dette. Dette kompendiet er derfor vesentlig ment til selvstudium og oppslag for studentene. Det er lagt vekt på å vise bruk av regneark i en naturfaglig sammenheng gjennom eksempler og oppgaver. Vi tar hele tida utgangspunkt i regnearkprogrammet Microsoft Excel 2010.
I NRK-programmet Brennpunkt den 01.11.11 ble det satt fokus på kvalitet i barnehagen, uten at begrepet kvalitet ble nærmere definert. Vi ønsker å rette fokus på en av de utfordringene ansatte i barnehager står overfor, og som krever god kompetanse, tilstrekkelig personale og en tydelig ledelse for å få til en kvalitativ god barnehage.
I will refer to a national project in Norway; initiated by NAFO, the National Center of Multicultural Education. In the period of 2007-2010 I was supervisor for 20 pre-schools in 5 different municipalities in the county of Troms, Norway. These pre-schools all had bilingual immigrant children, and were interested in learning more about both cultural diversity and multilingualism. This presentation will point out some of the development that took place in the staff of these pre-schools, and also focus on
my work at the teacher education. How do my knowledge about pre-school and the theme
multilingualism infect my teaching, and how can I prepare students working with bilingual children and improving their language skills?
In this project, bilingual immigrant children are recognized as children with other first languages than Norwegian, Sami, Swedish, Danish or English. These children will learn Norwegian as their second language, and the pre-school teachers will play an important role in their language development.
According to Kindergarten Act this group of children has the right to extra support, aiming to improve their Norwegian skills. The pre-school is required to encourage bilingual children’s use of their mother tongue, and simultaneously actively promote children’s development of Norwegian language skills (KD 2006).
During this project period I mean to have seen a pattern and a development in the preschools work
with bilingual children. This could help other preschools focusing on the same challenges. I will also focus on the role of the preschool teacher education preparing their students to their work with bilingual immigrant children.
