In the course of 1996 a small team of people will begin work on registration of the photo collections at the Dept. of Regional Ethnology at Tromsø Museum. The collections amount to some 80-90,000 frames, out of which a third of these are slides.
The work does not only include registration and proof-reading; the participants at the registration centre in Indre Salten (Fauske) will also be trained in motif description and in the classification of pictures. They will in other words be responsible for the complete and comprehensive registration of data. The Documentation project has developed a special software application for photo registration, applying the classification system «Out-line». In parallel to this registration work, the photos will be scanned into the computer, and linked to information about each picture.
Tore Johansen is the latest employee in the Documentation Project in Tromsø. He took over the Photo Project after Astri Fremmerlid.
