NORWEGIAN SOCIETY FOR EIGHTEENTH-CENTURY STUDIES

See full size The Norwegian Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies was founded in Trondheim on October 9th in 1998. The aim of the society is to encourage within Norway, interest and research in the eighteenth century. The activity of the society is primarly directed towards students, researchers and other employees at the universities and colleges. The society is associated with the International Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies.

National and international reseachers have lately been paying more attention to the eighteenth century. This increasing interest could be due to the fact that the modern world-view was formed during this historical period. Thougths and ideas of the eighteenth century are important even today because they to a great extent shape our conceptions and sense of reality.

More information on the aim of the society can be found in the constitution. The executive committee publishes a news bulletin (in Norwegian only), holds conferences and general assemblies. The society is comprised of researchers in diverse fields of study and several research programmes. Do you want to become a member?

The present board will organise the Society's 7th interdisciplinary conference in Tromsų in the autumn of 2011.
